Fascinating.

Yes, that is what Mr. Spock says quite frequently on Star Trek: The Original Series. What is more fascinating to me is that my daughters (9 and 5 years of age) love this show! I shouldn't say that I'm completely surprised. After all, I remember watching the reruns when I was young. My dad and I would bond and watch the show on the local UHF channel while my mother was cooking dinner. Of course, this was back in the '70s before everyone had cable and VCRs. Now, my husband and I don't consider ourselves 'Trekkers', which unknown to us until recently, that is the P.C. term for a Star Trek fan, not 'Trekkies'. Who knew?
But thanks to J.J. Abrams' blockbuster version of Star Trek last summer, my husband and I revisited the old series by renting the blue-ray disks from Netflix. Little did we know that our offspring would also enjoy the series. Watching the shows again 30 years later, I have a whole new appreciation of Star Trek. The show truly was ahead of its time with their plot points and political references. Star Trek has the reputation of being totally geeky, but to be fair, it really was a well-written show. Now my kids enjoy watching the show and will have memories like I did of watching the reruns with their parents. If you ask my kids what a Gorn or a Tribble is -- they will most certainly give you a full description and definition. By the way, I do believe I have found my Halloween costume for this year: Ladies Star Trek Costume, hmmm, maybe they can make one for my girls...we shall see, but for now, I will leave you with this: "Live long and prosper."

I love it....my husband and I sat in a crowded movie theatre a couple of days after the release of the new (old) Star Trek movie last summer. I might also add that we watched every original (original being with Spock, James T Kirk and the others) Star Trek movie in the theatre. I love the idea of renting the original series....great view just before settling into sleep for the night. We are so far removed from being Trekies (or Trekers), but they just don't make em like James T Kirk, Captain of the Star Ship Enterprise anymore.....by the way, love your site!

Thanks! you have a very nice site too. I'm always looking for new recipes to try. Star Trek withstands the test of time, I remember that show holding my attention span as a child and now the same thing is happening with my kids :)
